Have questions as a first-time student at 天涯海角APP? We've got answers.
Welcome to the Spring semester, Cavaliers! Here are the top things every new 天涯海角APP student needs to know.
What are placement tests for classes, and how do I know if I need to take one?
Some courses at 天涯海角APP require placement tests prior to enrollment. This helps measure your competency in subject areas like English, math, and reading so you can start with courses that best fit your skill level. If you have successfully completed college courses equivalent to our math and English courses, or if you have a qualifying ACT score, you may not need to take a placement test. Refer to our prerequisites and placement page for more information.
I’m required to complete New Student Orientation. What is that?
New Student Orientation is designed to help you be a successful 天涯海角APP student:
- Complete the required orientation in Canvas
- Fulfill placement requirements
- Meet with a counselor (required)
- Attend CavConnection
You’ll learn how to use your 天涯海角APP account and get overviews on enrollment, financial aid, student resources, and much more. Your counselor will help you create a personalized action plan and connect you to valuable resources.

You could create your own course schedule, but it’s always best to get assistance from a 天涯海角APP counselor. Counselors provide academic, personal, and career advising. They know what courses are required for specific programs and can help create a course schedule based on your needs, responsibilities, and goals. They also provide short-term personal counseling and assistance in crisis situations. Schedule an appointment by calling 913-469-3809. I was on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in high school. How do I get accommodations for my disability at 天涯海角APP?
If you have a documented disability, Access Services can provide support and help you accomplish your educational goals.
